ContraptionsForge
ContraptionsForge was created as the umbrella for many of my projects. It is an idea, a concept, something that defines a group of projects I started and will provide a place to show many of my simple applications, a name under which the applications can be known and related to.
Why ContraptionsForge and why another web page/site?
I like different things to have their own place, that's something you can see by the fact that I have a personal page, with minimal information, a blog in which I write sometimes and this wiki, where I put things that are not alone enough to justify a new site but, nevertheless, deserve their space on the web.
After the public presentation of my course's project I had a few moments to rest, catch some sun and thing on what I wanted to do. I had a lot of small projects in mind, some are in this wiki, other were never made public, and with some of those projects I wanted to learn a specific area in computer science and programming. But to present all those project here would take away the purpose of this wiki, at least the purpose I had envisioned.
So, I needed a place to show all the applications I want to create, I needed a place to put an Subversion server, something I can no longer live without, a place to put a project manager, like ProjectPier, that I use as much as I use SVN, all of these things made me think about a new server.
I'm using Trignosfera as my hosting, it's been a nice partnership, it's not that expensive, it provides a good service, and, as far as shared hosting goes, it provides me with all I need, well maybe not all, but for the personal site, wiki and blog is enough. But it lacks some features I need, an SVN server and MySQL with InnoDB support are the two most needed, therefor, the idea of providing a new home for my new projects came really naturally with the one for creating a new name and face for those projects.
And so ContraptionsForge was born, a place for my contraptions, pieces of code, small applications, games, and whatever I can throw at it.
